Using blood pressure monitoring items
Items 22012 and 22014 are used for any of 4 pressure monitoring types - systemic arterial, central venous, pulmonary arterial or cardiac intracavity. When added to the account, the default description does not specify which type of monitoring was used. For Eclipse, the type of monitoring must be specified each time the item is used. The same goes for items 11600 and 13876.
Normally, service text would be manually added to each item to indicate which type of pressure is used. However, Access Anaesthetics uses a simpler method. Service text is added automatically when the pressure type is unambiguously stated in the standard description field. In the following image, the first item will not be allowed, because the description does not specify the pressure type. However, the other two items will be accepted, and appropriate service text will automatically be added to any Eclipse claim using these items.
The Procedure field can be edited directly on the items page to clarify the type of pressure monitoring. To make data entry easier, you can save multiple descriptions for a single item number, and enter them using a subitem code, such as 22012art or 22012cvp.
Because Access Anaesthetics uses this method to clarify the pressure monitoring items, manually entering details into the service text will not work. Note that the actual description above is not sent via Eclipse, but a brief description is added to the service text when the claim is created. This will not appear in the standard service text box.
